Akuffo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has appointed three Court of Appeal Justices to replace the Supreme Court vacancies created by the obligatory retirement of three Justices earlier this year.

Henry Anthony Cofie, Yaw Asare Darko, and Richard Agyei Frimpong have been appointed as Justices.

Following the retirements of Justice Nene Abayeteye Ofoe Amegatcher in February 2023, former Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah in May 2023, and Justice Jones Dotse in June 2023, the President made his selection.

The appointment has been sent to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for review and report by the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu.

“Over the last few months, in February, May and June respectively, three vacancies have been created on the Supreme Court bench which now by convention having regard to its excessive jurisdiction comprises the Chief Justice and 15 other court justices.

These vacancies have resulted from the obligatory retirements of Justice Nene Abayeteye Ofoe Amegatcher on February 3, 2023, former Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah on May 24, 2023, and Justice Jones Dotse on June 8, 2023. "There are now 13 Supreme Court justices, including Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo," an extract from the President's message to Parliament said.

The Chief Justice is now joined by 13 other Justices on the Supreme Court bench.
