According to a statement issued by the Accra-based club on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, assistant manager Abdul Rahim Bashir will take interim command of the first team.

Koopman took over as manager of Hearts in August; however, he failed to have the intended impact on the team's performances and results. This season, the Phobians have only won two games in the Ghana Premier League and have only scored six goals in ten games.

Hearts have also failed to win any of their last three league games under Koopman, with all three ending in draws. "Accra Hearts of Oak has mutually parted ways with Coach Martinus Koopman," according to a club statement posted on social media.

"This decision forms part of the club's grand aim of restructuring the technical team as we continue with the 2023–24 football season." " In the interim, current assistant coach Abdul Rahim Bashir has been mandated to take charge as the acting head coach until further notice," the statement continued. "The Hearts of Oak Management is therefore using this opportunity to thank Coach Koopman for his services while at the club and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours."
